Two men from Waterfalls, Harare — Sponsor Moyo ,39, and Cosmas Mukwananzi ,34, — have appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing fraud charges after allegedly swindling a woman out of US$4,590 in a fake residential stand deal.
The complainant, Portia Beja, was reportedly lured into the scam in 2021 after responding to an advert by Ananyasha Properties, which falsely claimed to be selling residential stands in Retreat, Waterfalls.
Moyo and Mukwananzi allegedly acted in connivance with Ananyasha Properties directors Anna Madumera and Nyasha Grace Zinyama, who are still at large.
Beja was told the stands cost US$4,000 for 300 square metres.
She made an initial deposit of US$600 and paid monthly instalments of US$120 until she had paid a total of US$4,590.
After being assured that she could begin construction, the accused took her to a site that turned out to be illegal and not designated for residential development.
