Squash stars shine in Amsterdam

Two talented Zimbabwean squash players, Karen Webb and Ishmael Mubure, have made the country proud by competing at the prestigious World Masters tournament in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The event, which took place from August 15th to 22nd, 2024, showcased the best squash players from around the globe.

Karen Webb, a seasoned competitor, finished an impressive 8th place in her age group, competing against a record entry of 1200 squash players. Despite being one of the oldest participants at 59 years old, Webb's passion for the sport remains unwavering. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to play at such a high level and highlighted the lifelong friendships she has formed through squash.

To prepare for the tournament, Webb focused on improving her skills through regular practice sessions and cross-training activities. Her dedication to the sport has led to consistent success, with multiple top-10 finishes in World Masters events.

Ishmael Mubure, a rising star in the world of squash, has also represented Zimbabwe with distinction. Despite facing challenges such as limited resources and lack of sponsorship, Mubure has remained committed to his passion. He expressed his pride in representing his country on the global stage and emphasized the importance of hard work and perseverance in achieving success.

Mubure's goal is to continue his journey in squash and contribute to the development of young players in Zimbabwe. By providing guidance, support, and training opportunities, he hopes to inspire a new generation of talented athletes to represent their country with pride.
