The Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union is proud to announce that 10 talented athletes have been sent to China as part of an ambitious initiative aimed at enhancing their podium performance in international competitions. This opportunity, supported by the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe and the local Chinese community, is a vital step in advancing the athletes' skills and exposure.
ZTTU President, Noah Ferenando expressed his enthusiasm for the program: "We are deeply thankful for the backing from the Chinese Embassy and the local community. This initiative will not only improve our athletes' capabilities but also expose them to advanced training and competition, which will play a significant role in the sport's growth in Zimbabwe."
The delegation, currently training in China, will return at the end of September. This follows the recent Zimbabwe Closed Tournament, which highlighted the nation's emerging table tennis talent.
Ferenando praised the tournament participants, stating, "The skills displayed at the Zimbabwe Closed Tournament were exceptional. It clearly demonstrates the potential of table tennis in our country."
Tatenda Mumvuma and Brian Chamboko were crowned co-champions in the men's category, while Ashley Dlamini won the open women's title. Richard Shumba triumphed in the Masters category, with Sibongile Moyo securing the women's title.
The ZTTU remains dedicated to the growth of table tennis in Zimbabwe, with Ferenando concluding, "We are excited to see our athletes' progress both locally and on the international stage. This marks the start of an exciting chapter for table tennis in Zimbabwe."
