Zimbabwe Congress of Student Unions former leader, now chairman of the Zimbabwe Youth Action Platform, Tonderai Chidawa has condemned the recent helicopter crush in Masvingo as a treasonous act and demanded authorities to launch an independent Commission of Inquiry on the matter and invoke the death penalty on those found guilty of the offense.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare today, Chidawa said that he news of the helicopter crush came as a shock to him and many others I the country, noting that the news of the helicopter being tempered with was even more shocking as it was poised to furry the President, who then decided to go by road.
“We thank God that our Father, President Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa escaped the treasonous attack because he was not in the helicopter. We further demand that the highest penalty of our land be given to the culprits because they shall be known.
“We demand the death penalty for those who shall be found complicit in this evil attack,” he said.
The helicopter crush incident happened soon after the conclusion of the Youth League Munhumutapa event at Great Zimbabwe monuments, with government reporting no casualties nor injuries; however, investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crush
