Walter Magaya, leader of the Heart Group has launched the Plate Championship, a new initiative offers teams knocked out of the Heart Women Soccer League Tournament an exciting second chance to compete and showcase their talent.
The Championship features the bottom eight teams, who will battle it out alongside the four quarterfinalists in their own bracket, with a substantial prize purse up for grabs.
Notably, this reward is entirely separate from the main tournament's winnings, giving the teams an extra incentive to perform.
Speaking on the new development, tournament administration managerWellington Mpandar expressed his enthusiasm on Thursday evening: "The Plate Championship is a fantastic addition to the tournament, offering more games and exposure for our talented players. We're committed to growing women's soccer, and this initiative demonstrates our dedication.
"Under one roof, fans, scouts, and coaches will witness the best of women's soccer, identifying future stars. The Plate Championship will reveal the depth of talent in women's soccer, and we're honored to be sponsoring this initiative."
Arthur Gorejena, the tournament director, also welcomed the move, seeing it as a positive step for women's soccer: "The Plate Championship provides meaningful matches for bottom-placed and quarterfinal-knocked-out teams, offering increased exposure for players and opportunities for scouts and coaches. Above all, it helps with the continued promotion of women's soccer growth."
With the Plate Championship, Magaya and THE Heart Group have introduced a platform that not only promotes competition but also nurtures talent, providing more opportunities for players, fans, and stakeholders in women's football.
This initiative is poised to accelerate the growth of the sport and elevate the standards of the game.
