DreamStar Zimbabwe celebrated a decade of nurturing creativity and creating opportunities for young artists at its 10th anniversary celebration held in Harare on Saturday, with government officials, arts leaders and members of the diplomatic community gathering to honour a programme that has become a bridge between Zimbabwe and China.
The milestone event marked the 10th edition of the DreamStar Zimbabwe Talent Show, a platform that has spent the past decade identifying and nurturing young talent across Zimbabwe while providing a stage for emerging artists to showcase their abilities.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Napoleon Nyani said they were excited to see programmes such as DreamStar inspiring young people to pursue their dreams.
“We are very excited to see programmes like DreamStar inspiring young dreams,” Nyani said.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding praised DreamStar’s contribution to youth development and cultural exchange, saying the programme had become an important link between the two countries.

Ambassador Zhou said that since its launch in 2014, DreamStar had nurtured thousands of gifted young people, with more than 300 artists discovered through the programme travelling to China for cultural exchange activities. He added that at least 22 young artists had completed advanced academic programmes and earned master’s and doctoral degrees in China.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Emily Jesaya and Eugenia Chidhakwa from the ministry.
Jesaya said DreamStar provides opportunities for youth empowerment, job creation and talent development by giving young people a platform to monetise their abilities.
“DreamStar holds an opportunity for job creation for the youths and nurturing young talent. They are providing a platform for young people to monetise their talents,” she said.
She added that the programme had strengthened Zimbabwe-China relations, with winners receiving opportunities to travel to China.
