Seven executive members of the Zvimba East Veteran Investment Company have been brought before the court on allegations of invading Porta Farm in the Zvimba East District and illegally distributing residential stands.
The accused, Joe Chimonyo, 67, Muoni Conellious, 59, Israel Gasa, 42, Agnes Siyakurima, 54, Deliwe Muvhuti, 65, Elina Chasi, 64, and Solomon Nasho, 66—appeared before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Court. They are charged with unlawfully conducting land developments without the necessary approvals.
The State, represented by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that the seven used their influential positions to demarcate and sell residential stands to desperate home seekers. These actions were reportedly carried out without approval from the local authorities, violating the Regional Town and Country Planning Act.
The alleged scheme was uncovered when officials from Parklands Primary School discovered that their designated playground area had been pegged for residential development. Further investigation revealed that roads had also been opened through the school grounds.
The seven were arrested following an investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department's Property and Construction Unit and the Police Intelligence Unit.
They have been remanded in custody as the case proceeds.
