A 36-year-old man has appeared in court for defrauding the complainant of a generator and a toolbox.

Norman Sirani, of Hatcliffe, was brought before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Courts on fraud charges. He was granted bail set at US$100 and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 5, 2024.

According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, the fraud occurred on July 27 this year.

Sirani, along with Takunda Chatara, who has already appeared in court, and Terrence Zulu, who remains at large, conspired to defraud the complainant of a Ryobi Petrol 5.5KW Key Start RGRG-6900K generator and a Tork Craft Cantilever Toolbox, 5 Tray 88Pc.

Zulu, still on the run, allegedly instructed Sirani to meet with Chatara at Halsted Builders Express in Borrowdale, Harare, to facilitate the fraudulent transaction.

Once at the complainant's workplace, Sirani misled Chatara, claiming that he had been authorized by Tracy Stodart to purchase the generator and toolbox on her behalf using the account of her business partner, Project Bridge Incorporated.

The court heard that Zulu, Sirani, and Chatara successfully processed the fraudulent purchase, resulting in a US$798 deduction from Tracy Stodart's Project Bridge Incorporated business account without her consent.

Sirani was reportedly handed a receipt as proof of payment, after which he loaded the Ryobi Petrol 5.5KW Key Start generator and the Tork Craft Cantilever Toolbox into his truck and left the premises.

The total loss to the complainant is valued at US$798.
