The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Edward Kallon, has commended the Zimbabwean government for championing the role of children, youth, and women in addressing the climate change agenda.
Addressing the audience at the Climate Change and Development Conference on October 2nd, Mr. Kallon emphasized the importance of involving these groups in climate action, not only as leaders of tomorrow but also as change makers today.
Recognizing the disproportionate impact of climate change on children and young people due to their physiological and developmental stage, Mr. Kallon stressed the need to place them at the center of climate policies, strategies, and plans.
Furthermore, Mr. Kallon highlighted the importance of broadening the conversation to include women and indigenous communities. "We must recognize children and women not only as victims but as essential stakeholders in our collective efforts to adapt to and mitigate climate change," he said. "Their insights and experience are invaluable as we work towards comprehensive solutions."
