A Chinhoyi woman who is facing allegations of filicide has been arrested after an alert citizen blew the whistle on the crime.
Police have issued a statement saying that Cristabel Tizora, 24, gave birth to a baby girl and allegedly killed her in an undisclosed manner.
She wrapped the tiny corpse in a towel and shoved it into a bucket.
She placed stones on top of the lot.
A member of the public alerted the police and when officers turned up they found the evidence in place and recovered the bucket with its tragic contents.
Police now await forensic experts to determine manner of death for the infant.
“…the body was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for post-mortem,” said the police in their statement.
Cases of baby dumping have been on the increase with police saying that they are handling an average of two or three cases weekly.

Women who resort to baby dumping and infanticide often report lack of economic capacity to look after the child.
Another factor is fear of societal moral judgement. The women who dump or kill their babies usually do not have the moral, social or economic support of the child’s father.
Unplanned parenthood is prevalent in teens and young women even though access to family planning options is generally good in the country.
Oral contraceptives cost US$.50 cents for a month’s supply in urban areas and half that price in rural areas where they can be procured from clinics and community based distributors.
There have been reported cases of smugglers being caught en route to South Africa with oral contraceptives procured in Zimbabwe.
Oral contraceptive are distributed freely at public health facilities in South Africa but frequent stockouts force women to find alternative supplies.
