Three brothers from Gweru have been sentenced to 30 years each in prison for their involvement in a deadly altercation that shocked the local community. The sentencing, handed down by the High Court sitting in Gweru, follows a tragic incident on June 4, 2023, which resulted in the death of a 31-year-old man.
The convicted brothers, Zamani Ndlovu (45), Mehluli Ndlovu (36), and Mpilwenzima Ndlovu (33), were found guilty of murder after attacking and fatally injuring the victim during a drinking session at a local beer hall. The incident escalated when the now-deceased casually referred to one of the accused as his brother-in-law, as one of the brothers had a child with the victim’s sister.
The seemingly innocuous remark sparked a violent confrontation between the Ndlovu brothers and the victim. Witnesses recount that the brothers assaulted the man with fists, struck him with a brick, and ultimately stabbed him in the thigh with a knife. Despite efforts from bystanders to intervene, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.
Local authorities, with the assistance of members of the public, swiftly apprehended the three brothers following the incident. The case moved through the judicial system with remarkable speed, culminating in their conviction and subsequent sentencing to three decades behind bars.
