An accountant in the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development ministry has been arrested and charged with fraud after an internal audit revealed that US$120,860 was missing.
Knowledge Ngwarai (38) appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts on Friday, October 11, 2024, and was released on US$500 bail.
The complainant in the case is the ministry, represented by Betty Wenjere, the director of Finance Trust Funds. According to prosecutors, the ministry requested accountants to submit monthly management reports and bank statements, but Ngwarai's reports were only submitted in May of this year.
An internal audit revealed that a total of US$120,860.56 was missing, leading to Ngwarai's arrest.
