Craig Nikisi’s journey in sports is a testament to dedication, passion, and versatility. Craig is the second of four siblings in a family with a rich sporting heritage.

Growing up alongside two brothers and two sisters, Craig’s athletic career took root in primary school, where his early love for basketball laid the foundation for his sports journey.

It was his brothers, Carlvin Matengo and Tatenda Sunga, who truly ignited his passion for the game.

At Allan Wilson Boys High, Craig was quickly drawn into the vibrant world of basketball. With the encouragement and guidance of his brothers, he immersed himself in the sport, training rigorously to hone his skills.

His dedication bore fruit as he became a regular participant in various local tournaments, including the Bluebay, Eversharp, and Day and Night competitions.

Through both triumphs and setbacks, Craig gained invaluable experience and developed a competitive edge that would serve him well in his athletic pursuits.

However, Craig’s sports journey did not end with basketball. In Form 3, he encountered a relatively unfamiliar sport: Korfball.

This mixed-gender team sport, akin to basketball but without dribbling, intrigued Craig with its unique blend of passing, moving, defending, and shooting. Drawing from his basketball background, Craig adapted swiftly, and his natural athleticism made him an ideal fit for the game.

At Allan Wilson, a boys-only school, Craig and his teammates partnered with Queen Elizabeth Girls High to form a formidable Korfball team. Their combined efforts resulted in a powerhouse squad that dominated local and regional tournaments, including prestigious NASH competitions in Harare and Mutare.

Craig’s prowess on the court did not go unnoticed, and in 2022, he earned a coveted spot on the Zimbabwe National Korfball Team.

As the youngest member of the squad, Craig’s selection for the national team was a remarkable achievement. During the 2022 Zimbabwe National Korfball Championships, he showcased his skills and played a crucial role in leading the team to a strong finish. His speed, agility, and tactical understanding of the game made him a standout player, earning praise from teammates and opponents alike.
