Three individuals have been arrested and charged with illegal gold mining after being caught red-handed at Havilah Gold Mine in Mazowe.
Chrispen Simendi (42), Chris Moyo (28), and Nqobani Moyo (22) appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi on charges of contravening the Mines and Minerals Act. They were remanded in custody.
According to the prosecution, the trio entered a gold mine shaft at Havilah Gold Mine Glenara Estates on October 20 and began extracting gold ore. Alert security personnel heard their activities and quickly apprehended them.
The security guards seized a sack containing approximately 10 kilograms of gold ore and a pickaxe, which the accused were using to extract the mineral.
