Incarcerated businessmen expose ZEC tender corruption

Incarcerated business partners Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe have made startling allegations against unnamed government officials, claiming they received a significant portion of the US$40 million payment for the 2023 harmonized elections' ballot paper tender.

The duo, who were arrested in June and charged with fraud related to the Presidential Goat Scheme, contend that their imprisonment is a form of retaliation for exposing corruption within the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

In a recent High Court hearing, Mpofu and Chimombe revealed that they were working with Wicknell Chivayo and a South African company, Ren-Form CC, on the ZEC tender. They allege that Chivayo informed them that a substantial portion of the funds would be directed to government officials.

The businessmen further claimed that they were summoned by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) after the leaked audio exposing the ZEC tender scandal went viral. However, instead of being questioned about the ZEC matter, they were charged with the unrelated goat scheme fraud.

They accused ZACC chairperson Michael Reza of interfering with their case, alleging that Reza influenced the denial of their bail application despite initial consent.
