Man, 28, Jailed 30 Years for Spear Murder at Kwekwe Mine

 

Tinashe Mapaike, 28, was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the High Court sitting in Gweru after he was convicted of murder for fatally stabbing a 41-year-old man with a homemade spear at Jean Kleer 20 Mine in Tiger Reef, Kwekwe.

Mapaike, of Village Mapaike under Chief Chipindu in Chibi, Masvingo, appeared before the High Court circuit sitting in Gweru facing a charge of murder.

The court heard that at around 2100 hours on November 26, 2025, the deceased, Taurai Makwiramiti, 41, was at his residence at Jean Kleer 20 Mine preparing to have supper when Mapaike allegedly stormed into the yard armed with a homemade spear.

Mapaike confronted Makwiramiti over an undisclosed matter before allegedly striking him once on the forehead with the spear, causing him to collapse.

The attacker then fled the scene.

Makwiramiti was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Police launched investigations, leading to Mapaike’s arrest.

During questioning, Mapaike made indications at the primary crime scene and later led detectives to where he had hidden the homemade spear.

The weapon was recovered and produced in court as an exhibit.
