The Bulawayo Magistrates Court has sentenced two mine workers to an effective three years in prison each after convicting them of attempted murder for stabbing and striking a workmate with a snooker ball during a dispute at Springs Central Mine in Umguza.
Njabulo Mpofu, 31, of Mabutho in Bulawayo, and Clinton Mlilo, 27, of Nkulumane 5 in Bulawayo, were convicted of attempted murder.
Each was sentenced to five years in prison, with two years suspended for five years on condition that they do not commit any offence involving violence during that period, leaving an effective three-year prison term for each.
The complainant, Roy Gwauya, 29, is a workmate of the two offenders at Springs Central Mine in Umguza.

According to the State, on July 10, 2026, at around 9pm, Mpofu and Mlilo had a misunderstanding with Gwauya.
During the altercation, the two offenders, acting together with two others who remain at large, physically attacked Gwauya.
The court heard that the offenders stabbed Gwauya once in the back of his left shoulder with a knife and struck him once on the forehead with a snooker ball.
Gwauya was later medically examined, and a police report was made, leading to the arrest of the two offenders.
