A new and prolific borehole just a few meters from the home makes such a big difference to the people of Musavengana in Bikita.
It means hours and energy saved each day from trekking long distances for the life essential.
Old people, those with disabilities, women and men who work hard daily to survive, young people who must fit in chores around the demands of school work and growing up, everyone’s life is better with a trusted, reliable and nearby source of water.
The Musavengana villagers and thousands others across three districts in Masvingo province have Bikita Minerals to thank for the much improved life standards after the company spent a considerable part of its US$3.4 million Corporate Social Investment in drilling boreholes in the communities.
In walking the talk of brotherhood and helping Zimbabweans uplift themselves, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe has led initiatives to have 5000 boreholes drilled around the country.
Among these initiatives is the “Water is Life” project, which involves multiple Chinese firms, including Bikita Lithium Mine and Sabi Star Mine.
The companies have drilled numerous wells, providing a steady supply of clean water, vital for households facing drought and unreliable water infrastructure.
Sinomine, a major player in the mining sector, has invested approximately $104,000 in constructing 36 wells across the Masvingo regions, significantly improving sanitation and health for thousands of residents.
Max Mind Investment has established a clinic in Sabi Star that offers both water access and healthcare services, reducing the distance residents must travel for essential needs.
Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, in addition to drilling boreholes in Goromonzi, earlier this year, announced the raising of the Chinyika 3 dam spillway, a proactive measure designed to increase water capacity by an additional 1.5 million cubic meters.
As stated on their X page, "This initiative ensures water security for all stakeholders and sets a positive example for sustainable water management."
Kamativi Mining Company also built a new dam to serve its own operations as well as the community, rejuvenating the area which had stagnated after closure of the old tin mine.
Water scarcity is a critical issue, particularly in rural areas where access to clean drinking water is limited. By bringing this life essential to previously disadvantaged communities, Chinese companies are igniting fresh growth.
The investment is not just helping people access water, but also creating a base for self-improvement and improved health through nutrition gardens.
By meeting the fundamental need for clean water, China driven investment and people to people initiatives are making a long-term impact on rural Zimbabwe, building resilience and promoting well-being for thousands.
The boreholes, among other initiatives are transforming lives every day and helping create a better Zimbabwe where it truly matters.
