A Domboshava man, Abraham Mutambaneshiri, 21, has been denied bail in connection with a robbery and assault case.
Mutambaneshiri appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Courts on robbery charges and is scheduled to reappear for a bail hearing.
According to the State, represented by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, the incident occurred on November 3,2024 when the complainant, Kajese Ngonidzashe Austin, was walking along Mbuya Nehanda Street in Harare. As Kajese approached the intersection with Robert Mugabe Road, he was bumped into by Mutambaneshiri.
The court heard that when Kajese questioned the reason for the bump, Mutambaneshiri allegedly grabbed his waist and began searching his pockets. During the altercation, Kajese managed to restrain Mutambaneshiri, but three other men, who remain at large, allegedly joined in, assaulting Kajese with booted feet and clenched fists. They demanded he release Mutambaneshiri while they continued to search his belongings.
Kajese called for help, prompting passersby to intervene. As bystanders intervened, the other three suspects fled the scene, but Kajese held onto Mutambaneshiri, eventually bringing him to the police station.
Kajese sustained a cut on his left arm and is yet to undergo medical examination.
He reported the loss of personal items, including a phone, a pair of formal shoes, a pair of shorts, and US$10.
