Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics yesterday intercepted a substantial dagga (cannabis) shipment in Highlands, Harare, leading to the arrest of one individual.

The operation, which began with meticulous tracking of a foreign-registered cross-border bus, culminated in the discovery of 59.5 kilograms of the illicit substance.

According to police sources, detectives had been monitoring the suspicious movements of a cross-border bus. Their observations led them to a residence in Highlands, where they witnessed the bus crew offloading what appeared to be groceries into a DAF truck.

This seemingly innocuous activity quickly raised red flags for the seasoned detectives. Upon closer inspection, their suspicions were confirmed when they uncovered a large consignment of dagga concealed within the goods.

The operation then focused on the individual collecting the contraband. Memory Mukwasani (pictured), who had reportedly taken possession of the dagga from the bus crew, was promptly arrested at the scene.

Mukwasani is expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to the possession and trafficking of dangerous drugs. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the dagga and identify any other individuals involved in the syndicate.
