Former Economic Freedom Fighters National Chairperson Dali Mpofu has announced his departure from the EFF to join the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.
Mpofu, a prominent figure in the EFF for nearly a decade, disclosed his decision during an interview with SABC News on Thursday morning, describing MK as a "vehicle to achieve unity and emancipation" for Black South Africans.
"After a lot of soul-searching, I have decided to join the MK," Mpofu stated. "I believe it is the pathway to the much-needed Black and progressive unity."
Mpofu’s exit follows a series of recent defections from the EFF, with notable leaders such as Floyd Shivambu, Mzwanele Manyi, and Busisiwe Mkhwebane also transitioning to MK. While Mpofu attempted to inform EFF leader Julius Malema of his decision personally, he emphasized that it was not a personal move against Malema or the EFF.
Malema later responded on social media, suggesting that more members could leave but affirmed the party’s ongoing commitment to its principles.
Mpofu's departure is expected to have an impact on the EFF's leadership dynamics, with speculation mounting about other potential defections.
