The Mbudzi Interchange project is now 85% complete, with 13 out of 15 bridges finished.
In an interview with Zim Now, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development Communications and Advocacy Officer Judith Moyo confirmed that the project is progressing well.
“The overall completion of the project is at 85%. Current activities include erosion control measures and the ongoing placement of base materials at Bridge Number 1 underpass,” said Moyo.
“So far, 13 of the 15 bridges required for the Mbudzi Interchange in the southern part of Harare are completed.”
Local bus drivers, who have long dealt with severe congestion at the Mbudzi roundabout, are thrilled at the prospect of the new interchange easing traffic flow.
Simbarashe Mupfumi, a bus driver, expressed his excitement, saying, “The new interchange will be modern and efficient. It shows that our government is committed to improving infrastructure and making life easier for citizens.”
Another driver, Isaac Chari, commended the project for not only easing traffic but also creating employment.
“I’ve been driving through Mbudzi for years, and it’s always been a headache. The government is doing a great job with this project, and I’m impressed they created jobs for so many people during construction,” said Chari.
Around 800 people were employed during the project, a significant boost to the local community.
