Zambia’s Petauke Central Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Jay Banda, who recently escaped from police custody in Zambia and was apprehended in Harare this Tuesday faces some serious crime allegations.
The announcement was made yesterday (Wednesday) by Zambian Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu during a press briefing in Lusaka.
Minister Mwiimbu said Banda will face charges including aggravated robbery, attempted murder.
The fugitive MP will also answer to charges of escaping lawful custody after he got away from Zambian police in a movie style dramatic escape from Chipata General Hospital.
Investigations unearthed that Banda had a rented flat in Harare.
Zambian authorities relayed the information to Zimbabwean law enforcement who swiftly went into action to locate and apprehend the fugitive.
Banda was arrested on the morning of November 19, 2024, and is in custody at a Harare police station pending his transportation back to Zambia.
