The Harare High Court has denied bail to 25-year-old Ebelloy Chikemura, who is facing serious armed robbery charges. The court’s ruling comes after the state presented strong evidence, including eyewitness testimony, that placed Chikemura at the scene of the crime.
Chikemura, a resident of Eastview Park in Mabvuku, is accused of participating in a violent robbery that occurred on the evening of October 16, 2024, in Budiriro 4. The robbery involved Chikemura and a group of accomplices—who remain unidentified—storming a home while armed with a pistol. At the time of the attack, the complainant was at home with his three children.
The robbers, brandishing weapons, demanded cash from the terrified family. One of the assailants held the gun to intimidate the complainant, while another rifled through the house. During the chaotic scene, the second robber seized a knife from the kitchen and stole a Samsung A02 cellphone. The complainant, desperate for help, managed to alert neighbors with cries for assistance.
Chikemura was apprehended while attempting to flee. However, his accomplices managed to escape, and police are still searching for them.
In court, the prosecution argued that Chikemura should be denied bail, emphasizing his potential flight risk and the ongoing investigation. The court agreed, stating that releasing him would hinder the search for his accomplices and jeopardize the case.
