A Harare man, Felix Muruke, 58, has taken his wife, Linda Nhimhura, to court, accusing her of public verbal abuse and mistreatment.

During a hearing at the Harare Civil Court on Tuesday, Muruke alleged that his wife often insulted him using vulgar language in front of their children and neighbors. He further claimed that she physically intimidated him and humiliated him within their home.

"She uses vulgar words in front of my kids and neighbors, pushes me against the wall, and calls me an irresponsible father. She even orders me to sleep on the floor," Muruke testified.

Responding to the allegations, Nhimhura denied the claims of abuse, instead accusing her husband of physical assault. She stated that the conflict began after she requested money for groceries.

"He assaulted me, and the police advised me to apply for a protection order. I received a summons after telling him I would file for one," she told the court.

Presiding Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in favor of Muruke, ordering Nhimhura to cease all verbal abuse and ensure a peaceful domestic environment.

This case highlights the growing recognition of verbal and emotional abuse in domestic relationships. It serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing all forms of abuse while ensuring that justice is balanced and fair to all parties involved.
