Two armed robbery suspects hit in police shootout

Two suspects were shot while police officers in Bulawayo arrested five suspects in connection with two armed robberies in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo. 

The five suspects, identified as Nkosiyazi Nyathi (20), Vusumusi Ncube (22), Mgcini Sibanda (24), Mlungisi Ndlovu (41), and Nkosiyazi Moyo (27), were apprehended on December 12 following an investigation into a stolen firearm .

According to ZRP national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the suspects were linked to two armed robberies, one on November 8 and another on November 22, during which US$26,508 and five cellphones were stolen from a house. The suspects are also being linked to a case of robbery at a service station in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, where an undisclosed amount of cash, a shotgun, and two cellphones were stolen .

During the arrest, a shootout occurred when Nkosiyazi Moyo fired at the detectives and was shot in the chest. Moyo sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital in Bulawayo for treatment. A Norico pistol charged with five rounds and two empty cartridges were recovered at the scene .

Meanwhile, a sixth suspect, Alex Nyathi, is still at large, and police are urging the public to report any information that may lead to his arrest.

The ZRP has commended the public for providing valuable information that led to the arrest of the suspects. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected criminal activities on the National Complaints Desk number or at their nearest police station .
