A Goromonzi man has appeared in court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Axio worth US$12 000 after its owner left the vehicle unattended with the keys in the ignition in Harare’s central business district.
Shivan Junior Chamangira appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court facing a charge of theft.
He was remanded in custody pending a bail determination.
The complainant is Craig Funzani, a self-employed artisanal miner.
The court heard that on September 17, 2026, at around noon, Funzani parked his silver Toyota Axio opposite Petrol Trade at the corner of Jason Moyo Avenue and Leopold Takawira Street before proceeding to Cleveland House.
He allegedly left his two sisters, Anodiwanashe Tinodakufa and Agnes Saidi, in the vehicle with the keys still in the ignition.

When Funzani returned, he discovered that both the vehicle and his sisters were no longer at the spot.
He later spotted his sisters walking along Leopold Takawira Street and questioned them about the vehicle.
The two allegedly told him that they had left the vehicle unattended while looking for him after he took longer than expected to return.
Funzani then realised that the vehicle had been stolen and reported the matter at ZRP Harare Central.
Later that day, Chamangira was reportedly stopped by a motorised police patrol from ZRP Juru in the Mwanza area of Goromonzi after officers allegedly observed him driving recklessly.
During questioning, he allegedly admitted to stealing the vehicle along Leopold Takawira Street in Harare.
He was subsequently arrested and the vehicle was recovered.
