A Harare man who allegedly vanished after being paid to drill a borehole has been arrested.

Tavengwa Wellington, 45, appeared before magistrate Sharon Rakafa at the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing fraud charges. He was remanded in custody.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu told the court that on December 6, around 3:54 PM at Joina City, Tavengwa misrepresented to the complainant, Innocent Masocha of Glenock Farm, Acturus, that he could drill and install a borehole on a "fix and supply" basis.

Tavengwa reportedly provided an Ecocash number, instructing Masocha's father to transfer US$1 000, promising to commence work within 12 hours.

After receiving the money, Tavengwa allegedly blocked Masocha and became unresponsive.

Realising he had been duped, the complainant reported the matter, leading to Tavengwa's arrest.
