Women’s football Revolution:Calls for more female representation in ZIFA polls

As the Zimbabwe Football Association  gears up for its highly anticipated elections on January 25, the spotlight is shining brightly on the lack of female representation in the running. Out of 37 candidates vying for six board member positions, a mere six are women, accounting for a paltry 16% of the candidates list.

The new ZIFA constitution has made a bold step towards promoting gender equality by guaranteeing that one of the two ZIFA deputies must be a woman. However, football personalities, including the legendary Stanford "Stix" Mtizwa, are calling for more women to be given a chance in mainstream football administration.

Mtizwa has thrown his weight behind Dutch Academy director Kudzai Kadzombe, endorsing her for the board member position. "Kadzombe has a proven track record of commitment to football development, and her passion and dedication make her an ideal candidate for the ZIFA board," Mtizwa said.

Kadzombe is one of six women contesting for the ZIFA board member posts, alongside Alice Zeure, Sabelo Maphosa, Sibekiwe Ndlovu, Cecilia Gambe, and Beaullar Msarah. As the football fraternity eagerly awaits the outcome of the elections, one thing is clear: the time for women's empowerment in Zimbabwean football is now.

The ZIFA elections present a unique opportunity for women to break into mainstream football administration. With the new constitution paving the way for greater female representation, it's time for the football fraternity to rally behind these trailblazing women.
