The Mufakose community came alive on Saturday, January 11, 2025, as two of its most illustrious sons, Khama Billiat and Wilfred Mashaya, graced the much-anticipated Mufakose Lodza Challenge Match, Fun Day, and Award Ceremony.

The event, organized by Lloyd Muchaka and coordinated by Charles Thole, united locals and diasporans in a day of celebration, inspiration, and community development.

Khama Billiat, Zimbabwe’s celebrated soccer star, was the Guest of Honour, while Wilfred Mashaya, the internationally acclaimed martial artist known as “Zim Ninja,” attended as a Special Guest. Both were raised in Mufakose and were chosen to inspire the youth with their remarkable achievements. The day focused on fostering unity, wellness, and strong values such as rejecting substance abuse, respecting the girl child, and nurturing talent.

The festivities began at Tendai Primary School, where the crowd enjoyed two thrilling soccer matches. The first match saw the Tendai Strikers claim victory after an intense penalty shootout, winning 17-16 following a 1-1 draw.

The main highlight was the clash between Area A Football Club and Friends of Lodza, a team featuring former Premier League players like Silver Bhebhe and Dominic Kampira. After an electrifying encounter, Friends of Lodza triumphed 3-2, leaving fans entertained and energized.

The excitement reached its peak at Chamimuka Community Centre, where the arrival of Billiat and Mashaya electrified the atmosphere. Fans jostled for photos with the stars, and security struggled to manage the enthusiastic crowd.

Wilfred Mashaya captivated the audience with a breathtaking martial arts performance, demonstrating his world-class skills and earning thunderous applause from spectators.

The highlight of the day was the Area A Awards Ceremony, where the community honoured its achievers across various disciplines. Khama Billiat presented the awards, showcasing the importance of celebrating local talent and hard work.

Wilfred Mashaya was recognized as the Current Sports Person for his extraordinary achievements in martial arts, while Peter Nyamande received the Yesteryear Sports Person award for his contributions to the community’s sporting history.

Charles “Akoma” Thole was celebrated for his influence in the arts, and the late Josephat Masters, alongside Mudiwa Nyamuswa, was acknowledged for excellence in business. In the academic category, Professor Oliver Mutapuri was awarded for his outstanding achievements, while team accolades went to the MTCA Tennis Team of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the modern-era Hustler Basketball Team.

The day ended with music, food, and drinks as the community celebrated its rich legacy of producing national and international icons. Mufakose, home to legends like Justice Muswe, Martin Dzuwa, and Wilfred Mashaya, continues to inspire generations with its stories of success.
