Two suspected armed robbers were apprehended by members of the public in Mufakose over the weekend after they robbed a family of US$400, R1050, and four cellphones.
The suspects, identified as Vincent Tabvirakare ,41, and Peter Munyaradzi Runganga ,35, were part of a four-member gang that raided a house in the suburb on January 12, 2025.
The swift apprehension of the suspects was made possible by the quick action of the victims. When the robbery was in progress, one of the complainants shouted for help, alerting nearby residents. The public responded immediately, apprehending Tabvirakare and Runganga.
National Police Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests. "The ZRP confirms the arrest of Vincent Tabvirakare ,41, and Peter Munyaradzi Runganga ,35, in connection with a robbery that occurred at a house in Mufakose, Harare, on January 12, 2025," Commissioner Nyathi said.
"Members of the public apprehended the suspects after the complainants shouted for help while the robbery was in progress."
However, two other suspects, identified only as Zindoga and Gumbura, remain at large. Police are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to their arrest.
