The High Court has dismissed Walter Magaya’s bid to overturn his disqualification as a candidate for the ZIFA presidency ahead of the January 25 elections.

In his ruling, Justice Tawanda Chitapi upheld the requirement for candidates to have a minimum of five O’ Level passes, stating:

“A requirement to have five O’ Levels must be met. Just for the avoidance of doubt, if one relies on a diploma, the issue is not that a diploma is higher than O’ Level. The applicant would be required to produce an O’ Level certificate even if he holds a PhD.”

Justice Chitapi further criticized Magaya for withholding key information about his qualifications, noting:

“In the present matter, the applicant has been coy in disclosing further information regarding his qualifications to correct the committee’s decision.”

The court ruled against Magaya, dismissing his application and ordering each party to bear its own costs.
