Vice President General (Retired) Dr. Constantino Chiwenga was inducted into the Roman Catholic Guilds at the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception at the House of Nazareth in Harare on Sunday. Accompanied by his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, and their children, the Vice President expressed his deep gratitude for the honor.
Speaking to journalists after the ceremony, VP Chiwenga highlighted the crucial role the Catholic Church plays in shaping the family institution, promoting peace, national cohesion, and unity – essential components for national development. He shared his personal journey of faith, saying, "I was baptized soon after my birth on July 2, 1956, and I have been a Catholic ever since. Even during the war of liberation in 1973, my Catholicism remained unwavering. I went to war with my rosary and returned with it."
VP Chiwenga's commitment to his faith is evident in his daily life, as he revealed that he is often one of the first people to arrive at the office, motivated by his devotion to the Church. The guild system in the Catholic Church, which encourages members to deepen their faith through prayer, education, and fellowship, resonates deeply with the Vice President.
The induction ceremony was presided over by St. Gerrard Parish Priest, Father Mark Chikuni.
