The government has renewed contracts with six service providers under the Consignment-Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) programme, in a move aimed at strengthening trade compliance and curbing smuggling.

Industry and Commerce Minister Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu presided over the signing ceremony in Harare, where representatives from Bureau Veritas, Cotecna, EAA Company, Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ), World Standardisation Certification and Testing Group (WSCTG), and Intertek signed new agreements with the government.

Speaking at the event, Ndlovu said the CBCA programme remains crucial in ensuring that imported goods meet the country’s required standards before reaching the local market.

“This renewal marks a significant step in our commitment to quality assurance and trade integrity. The CBCA programme is a vital mechanism for protecting consumers, encouraging fair competition, and supporting our industrialisation agenda,” he said.

He emphasised that the initiative is aligned with the Zimbabwe Industrial Reconstruction and Growth Plan (2024–2025), which seeks to build a robust industrial base.

“By ensuring compliance at the source, we are not only safeguarding our economy from substandard and counterfeit goods but also enhancing revenue collection and transparency in trade,” he said.

A representative from Bureau Veritas welcomed the renewed partnership.

“We are proud to continue working with the Government of Zimbabwe in enforcing quality standards and supporting efficient trade practices,” the official said.

Dr. Eve Gadzikwa, Director General of SAZ, said the organisation was committed to maintaining high standards in imported goods.

“Our role is to ensure that all products entering Zimbabwe meet the approved quality thresholds. This collaboration is critical for consumer safety and industrial development,” she said.

The CBCA programme, introduced in 2015, requires  selected service providers to inspect goods in the country of origin before shipment, ensuring conformity with local standards and regulations.
