Bulawayo Court Officials Arraigned for Fraud

Zim Now Writer

Two officials from the Bulawayo High Court have been arraigned before the Bulawayo Magistrates Court for allegedly defrauding a complainant of nearly US$2 000.

The accused, High Court assessor Ceaser Nkomo ,63, and research assistant Shingirai Mupunga ,29, reportedly demanded payments under false pretenses to facilitate the reinstatement of a civil case that had "mysteriously disappeared from the court system."

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the complainant initially sought assistance regarding a case filed in 2021.

However, Nkomo and Mupunga allegedly solicited various sums of money, claiming the payments were necessary for "case reinstatement" and were intended for a presiding judge.

Suspicious of the demands, the complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to the officials’ arrest. Mupunga has since resigned from his position.

In a statement, the NPAZ urged the public to avoid making informal payments to court officials, emphasizing that all official transactions should be conducted at designated offices, where receipts are issued.
