Two men accused of defrauding Access Forex Private Limited of US$220,065 have been arrested and appeared in court.

Ngonidzashe Bhudiyo ,29, and Terrence Mashumba ,38, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court facing fraud charges. Their bail ruling is set for February 25.

The complainant, Access Forex Private Limited, is represented by Patson Makina ,34. The company specializes in international money remittances.

Prosecutors allege that between January and October 2023, Bhudiyo and Mashumba, working with an accomplice still at large, Tinashe Jonah Sithole, fraudulently accessed the company's money transfer system.

Once inside the system—without authorization—the trio allegedly created fictitious money remittance transactions originating from the United Kingdom. These transactions were processed as if real funds had been sent, allowing the accused to withdraw money locally without any actual deposits being made abroad.

Between January and October 2023, the suspects allegedly transferred a total of US$220,065 to their personal mobile money accounts in Zimbabwe, withdrawing the funds from Access Forex outlets nationwide. They reportedly used the money to buy vehicles and household electrical appliances.

The fraud was uncovered during an internal audit, leading to the arrest of Bhudiyo and Mashumba in Mutare. A Toyota Hiace and Nissan Note were recovered, but the stolen funds remain unaccounted for.

The case continues on February 25, 2025.
