Cimas Health Group has partnered with UK-based dental organisation Smilestar to offer free dental care to underserved communities in Matabeleland North Province.
The two-week dental outreach program, which ended on March 20, provided vital oral healthcare services to residents in Victoria Falls and Hwange. Cimas supported the initiative by supplying medical personnel, including Doctor Alan Gura, and a fully equipped mobile dental clinic.
Starting at Chinotimba Clinic in Victoria Falls, the team treated patients for four days before moving to Hwange, where services were offered at Hwange Miombo Safari Camp in Dete.
Smilestar founder, Dr. Mitesh Badiani, praised the partnership, highlighting how Cimas’ resources allowed for more comprehensive treatments, including restorative and endodontic procedures, which had not been possible in previous outreaches.
“This collaboration sets a new benchmark for our outreach programs globally, with the mobile clinic significantly improving the quality of care,” said Dr. Badiani.
He also acknowledged the contribution of UK-based Zimbabwean Mark Cockburn and emphasised the role of volunteers, who self-fund their participation.
Dr. Badiani noted preventable dental issues were prevalent and advocated for better oral hygiene education in schools. He expressed interest in expanding to other regions but emphasized the need for local partnerships for logistics support.
Cimas Health Group CEO, Vuli Ndlovu, said the program aligns with their mission to promote healthier communities. “Access to healthcare, including oral care, is a fundamental right,” said Ndlovu, adding that Cimas is committed to supporting underserved areas.
Ndlovu also confirmed Cimas' participation in the Ministry of Health and Childcare’s World Oral Health Day commemorations held at Kusile Government Primary School in Lupane.
