A Beitbridge man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after he was convicted of drug trafficking by the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court.
The convict, Sithembile Chikamhi, was found guilty of unlawfully dealing in dangerous drugs after he was caught attempting to smuggle 13.716 kilograms of dagga into Zimbabwe from South Africa.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Chikamhi was apprehended on March 18, 2025, during a police patrol under Operation No to Cross Border Crimes. Officers on duty stopped and searched him as he walked along the Old Bridge across the Limpopo River, carrying two black traveling bags.
Upon inspection, police discovered three compressed, shrink-wrapped parcels of dagga hidden among groceries and clothing items. The total haul was valued at US$1,371.60.
Chikamhi's conviction underscores the Zimbabwean authorities' continued efforts to combat drug trafficking and cross-border crimes.
