GMB Sets 2024/25 Grain Prices and Winter Wheat Incentive Price

The Grain Marketing Board has set producer prices for the 2024/25 summer cropping season and the 2025 winter wheat incentive price, maintaining its role in ensuring food security and stabilising the agricultural sector.

Maize and traditional grains will be bought at US$376.48 per metric ton, while soybeans and sunflower are priced at US$580 and USD 668.98 per metric ton, respectively.
The winter wheat incentive price has been set at US$451.35 per metric ton.

GMB Chief Executive Officer Dr. E. Badarai said the prices reflect the government’s commitment to supporting farmers under structured programs.
“These prices are meant to ensure farmers get fair value while maintaining the country’s grain reserves,” he said.

The board will mainly purchase produce from farmers under the Presidential Input Programme and irrigation schemes.
Contractors are expected to buy back contracted produce at market prices.

Last year, the producer price for maize was set at US$335 per metric ton before a top-up adjustment, while wheat was initially priced at US$520 per metric ton.
The latest pricing framework comes as Zimbabwe continues to strengthen grain production through government-backed initiatives.

GMB is also working with the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange to facilitate commercial warehouse receipt services.
“This will provide farmers with storage solutions and improve access to structured markets,” Badarai said.
