A Bulawayo-based non-governmental organisation, Here we Rise Trust, whose mission is to promote the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs), is this weekend set to host its fourth edition of the Miss and Mr Inspirational modelling competition.
Founder and the Chief Executive Officer of the Trust, Thandolwenkosi Ndhlovu, told Zim Now that the event is for persons around Bulawayo.
“It is not a national event but it’s a Bulawayo Metropolitan event, thus it caters for persons around Bulawayo.
She, however said the organisation has plans on the cards to host its first national event in 2025.
Here We Rise has engaged stakeholders like churches, corporates such as Lobels, Royal Pharmacy, Truth Models Academy and PUMA for financial support for the event.
Ndhlovu said for the organisation to get models, they call for participants through registers.
“For us to get models, we circulate registration forms that cater for people with disabilities. We have students from King George, Jairos Jiri, Founders High School and some are coming from Bulawayo community wards,” she said.
The objective, she added, is to see every person with a disability being recognised and uplifted in the entertainment sector, especially in the modelling industry.
The organisation advocates for transparency and realistic worlds of equality for all in every area of various sectors.
The modelling event coincides with the world’s commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated on December 3 each year.
It is a United Nations event, set aside to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, and to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
