Government has partnered with the International Solar Alliance to establish a Solar Technology Application Resource Centre at Chinhoyi University of Technology, Cabinet confirmed Tuesday.

The initiative will see STAR-C housed within CUT’s Innovation Hub, where it will serve as a national centre for capacity building, testing, standardization, and incubation of solar technologies. It is also expected to spearhead public education and awareness campaigns on renewable energy adoption across the country.

“This partnership will enhance Zimbabwe’s drive towards energy sustainability by promoting the uptake of solar technologies,” read part of a Cabinet statement. “It aligns with the nation’s broader strategy to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and build climate-resilient infrastructure.”

The centre is a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s Smart Zimbabwe Master Plan, which positions renewable energy as a pillar of both economic growth and environmental resilience.

The ISA is a global coalition of over 100 countries focused on expanding solar energy solutions, particularly in developing nations.

Zimbabwe’s collaboration with the Alliance underscores its commitment to international climate goals and sustainable development.
