GMB Gets US$5m for Wheat Deliveries

The Grain Marketing Board  has released an additional US$5 million for wheat deliveries, bringing total disbursements to US$23 million and ZWL$215 million.

The move comes as wheat farmers across Zimbabwe continue to express growing frustration over payment delays that have hampered preparations for the winter cropping season.

In a statement, GMB thanked the Treasury for mobilising funds and reaffirmed its commitment to achieving food self-sufficiency through increased wheat production. The Board also praised the resilience and dedication of Zimbabwean farmers, describing them as a critical pillar of the country's agricultural development.

“The Board greatly appreciates all the efforts being put in place by Treasury to mobilise resources,” GMB Chief Executive Officer Dr Edson Badarai said .

However, despite this latest payout, tensions remain high. Farmers say the funds have come too late, with some still awaiting full payment for wheat delivered months ago. The delays, they argue, are derailing efforts to secure inputs and prepare land on time—jeopardising the success of the 2025 winter wheat season.
