A suspected fraudster has swindled First Link Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd out of ZWG$1 100 943.48 after faking payments for 65 vehicle insurance quotations and ZINARA fees.

The man, identified as Henry Chishanga, allegedly posed as a genuine client in need of insurance services and engaged the company between January 11 and February 18.

According to reports, Chishanga contacted the insurance firm and requested quotations for dozens of vehicles. He went on to send fake proof of payments, making it appear as though he had transferred the required funds into the company’s bank account.

The quotations totaled ZWG$1 011 644 for ZINARA fees and ZWG$89 299.48 for insurance premiums.

The fraud came to light during a routine bank reconciliation on February 13, when the company discovered that no payments had actually been received.

By then, the company had already processed the quotations, resulting in a total financial loss of ZWG$1.1 million. None of the money has been recovered.
