On the opening day of the Test match, Bangladesh found themselves on the back foot as a spirited Zimbabwe bowling attack bundled them out for just 191. The day began with promise but quickly turned into a showcase of disciplined bowling and smart field placements by the visitors.
Bangladesh started cautiously in the first session, reaching 65 for 2 after 19 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque were looking to stabilize the innings after the early dismissals. Shanto remained unbeaten on 18, while Mominul looked composed on 15. However, Victor Nyauchi made a strong impact in the morning session, claiming two important wickets and helping restrict the hosts to 84 for 2 by the session break.
The second session saw Bangladesh trying to build a solid partnership, as Shanto and Mominul continued to resist the Zimbabwean bowlers. At 97 for 2 after 30 overs, the hosts appeared to be regaining control. But the tide soon turned again. Zimbabwe struck twice before tea, reducing Bangladesh to 125 for 4 after 41 overs. Mominul Haque was inching towards a well-deserved half-century with 46 not out, while Jaker Ali was yet to get off the mark.
The third session brought more misery for the home side. Despite Mominul’s efforts, the rest of the batting lineup failed to withstand the relentless pressure. Bangladesh lost their remaining six wickets for just 66 runs, ending their innings at 191.
Zimbabwe’s bowling attack earned plaudits for their consistency and aggression throughout the day. Fans and commentators alike were quick to acknowledge the effort. “The Zimbabwe bowlers today have been phenomenal,” noted cricket analyst Adam Theo. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe supporter Tafadzwa Masey expressed hope for a strong reply, stating, “Hope we can bat for the rest of the day and whole of tomorrow and put a sizeable total on the board!”
With Bangladesh bowled out on Day 1, all eyes will now be on Zimbabwe’s batting response as they look to take advantage of a strong position heading into Day 2.
