Sprint athlete Makanakaishe Charamba opened his 2025 outdoor season with a time of 19.99 seconds (-0.8 m/s) in the 200m at a meet in Florida over the weekend. He finished ahead of Tennessee’s T'Mars McCallum, who ran 20.21, and Auburn teammate Dario Matau, who clocked 20.45.
Charamba, representing Auburn University, competed for the first time outdoors this season following a successful indoor campaign. In March, he won the SEC Indoor 200m title in 20.13 seconds, setting both a meet and facility record. His time was the fastest indoor 200m in the world for the year and ranked seventh on the all-time global list. He was later named SEC Men's Runner of the Year, becoming the first Auburn male athlete to receive the honor.
In 2024, Charamba represented Zimbabwe at the Paris Olympics and reached the final in the 200m event, where he placed eighth. His performance at the Florida meet continues his participation in the U.S. collegiate circuit.
