The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe  has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting patients and expanding awareness campaigns in an intensified effort to curb the growing burden of cancer in the country.

In a recent statement, CAZ underscored its dedication to providing critical care to patients and their families, while expressing gratitude for the crucial partnerships with donors and volunteers that make its mission possible. "We remain steadfast in supporting cancer patients and running awareness programs to lessen the impact of this disease," the association stated. "We are deeply grateful to our partners, donors, and volunteers who have generously stood with us in the fight for a cancer-free Zimbabwe."

CAZ also acknowledged the significant emotional toll that cancer takes, not only on those diagnosed but also on their loved ones. Recognizing this, the organization has integrated mental health support into its services, striving to create a more inclusive and compassionate environment for all those affected. "Cancer doesn't just attack the body—it shakes the emotions of those diagnosed and everyone around them," CAZ emphasized. "That's why we have expanded our programs to include mental health awareness, ensuring no one faces this battle alone."

The association reported a notable surge in cancer screenings over the past year, indicating a positive shift in public engagement with early detection. Through a range of initiatives, including wellness lectures, exhibitions, and outreach programs, CAZ reached 13,368 individuals, marking a substantial 38.6% increase compared to 2023.

Specifically, breast cancer screenings saw 5,509 women and 45 men tested, reflecting a 36.3% rise. Cervical cancer checks for 2,369 women also increased by 17%, while prostate cancer screenings for 2,937 men showed a 6.3% increase from the previous year.

Furthermore, CAZ highlighted that 1,935 individuals received free screenings, and its nurses provided care to 6,359 clients through hospital visits, home care, and office consultations, demonstrating a 27% increase in service provision from 2023.

The association also reported progress in delivering emotional and medical support. Counseling services were accessed by 688 clients, a 36% surge, while 752 patients received chemotherapy drugs, marking an 82% increase. To further alleviate the challenges faced by vulnerable patients, CAZ distributed essential food and toiletry hampers to 10 individuals in need.
