Zimbabwe Showcases Aviation Growth at ICAO AFI Week 2025

Zimbabwe is positioning itself as a key aviation hub at the 10th ICAO AFI Aviation Week 2025, hosting over 400 global leaders to tackle challenges and unlock opportunities across Africa’s skies.

Deputy Transport Minister Hon. Joshua Sacco highlighted the nation’s strategic initiatives:

"Zimbabwe is pioneering sustainable aviation fuels from sugarcane feedstock – a major step in decarbonizing regional air travel. This aligns with our re-engagement drive and showcases Victoria Falls’ world-class conferencing appeal to boost tourism."

NAVPASS Africa Rep Ruth Hungwe emphasized untapped potential saying Zimbabwe could generateUS$37 million annually from air navigation fees – vital for modernizing infrastructure and safety capabilities.

Parliamentary member Kenneth Musanhi cited UAE drone taxis as examples of leapfrogging opportunities for African nations.

The 5-day summit, co-hosted by ICAO and Zimbabwe, serves as a critical platform for advancing SAF production partnerships, developing efficient airspace management and showcasing Zimbabwe’s upgraded aviation infrastructure.

Deputy Minister Sacco noted that delegates were impressed by Zimbabwe’s hospitality and facilities – proving Zimbabwe is open for aviation investment.
