Red Buffalo Soccer Academy’s tough start to life in the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League continued in Week 8, as the newly-promoted side suffered another heavy loss.
On Saturday, 31 May 2025, they were beaten 10-0 by a dominant Black Rhinos team at Vengere Stadium.
Red Buffalo S.A. is one of the teams promoted to the top-flight league this season. However, their journey so far has been very difficult, with results showing just how big the gap can be between the lower divisions and the Premier League. Their biggest defeat so far came in Week 6, when they lost 18-0 to Chapungu Queens — a record loss that shocked many football fans across the country.
This week’s 10-0 defeat to Black Rhinos is now their second heavy loss of the season, highlighting the serious challenges they are facing in defense and overall competitiveness. Black Rhinos took full control of the match and punished every mistake made by the Red Buffalo side.
The rest of Week 8 saw several exciting matches played across the country. The weekend began on Friday, 30 May, at Bata Stadium, where Sheasham beat Cranborne 3-1 in a confident display.
On Saturday, 31 May, Platinum Royals delivered a strong performance at Mandava Stadium, beating Maningi Youth Soccer Academy 4-0. At The Heart Stadium, Harare City and Conduit Soccer Academy played to a 1-1 draw in a balanced and hard-fought game.
In Bulawayo, two matches were played at the Bulawayo Chiefs Village. Chapungu Queens, who handed Red Buffalo their worst defeat earlier this season, continued their good form with a 3-0 victory over Mpopoma Sports Academy. In the other game at the same venue, Highlanders Royals claimed a narrow 1-0 win against Kwekwe United.
At Wagadhugu Stadium, Correctional also managed a slim 1-0 victory over Faith Drive, while Herentals Queens cruised to a 5-0 win over Black Mambas at Mkushi Stadium.
While many teams celebrated important wins and showed great progress, the spotlight remains on Red Buffalo Soccer Academy’s struggle to adapt to top-tier football. As a newly-promoted side, they will need to work hard, improve their defense, and build confidence if they are to survive in this highly competitive league.
Week 8 brought more exciting football, big scorelines, and rising talent. The season continues to unfold with high energy, and fans are eager to see if Red Buffalo S.A. can recover and begin to find their feet in the Premier League.
