Police have arrested 40-year-old Linas Tshuma in connection with the theft of US$46,000 from a parked vehicle in Kwekwe’s Central Business District on June 4, 2025.
The incident took place along E.D. Mnangagwa Road, where thieves targeted a Mazda CX-5 parked in a designated bay. The suspects, who were reportedly using a Toyota Mark X with the registration number AGI 4348, allegedly smashed the rear right quarter glass of the SUV and made off with a bag containing the cash.
Investigations later revealed that the registration plates on the getaway car were fake and originally belonged to a blue Mazda Demio.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 9, Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Tshuma at a house in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo.
"The detectives made a follow-up and arrested the suspect at a house in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo," Nyathi said. "The arrest led to the recovery of a Samsung M13 cellphone, suspected to have been purchased with the stolen money, along with the getaway vehicle — a Toyota Mark X bearing registration number AFO 6880 and plates AFA 1529 — as well as a driller, a rivet gun, and various clothing items that match those seen on CCTV footage from the scene."
Police are still hunting for the remaining suspects: Thethelani Ndlovu, Esau Mazarura, Bhekinkosi Tshuma, Mpiloenhle Ndlovu, Xolani Tshuma, Gugulethu Khumalo, and Reason Moyo, also known as Tsorinso.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact their nearest police station.
