A daring armed robbery at Meru Service Station in Kwekwe on 17 November 2025 left five Fawcett security officers tied up and US$9 700 stolen after four gunmen stormed the premises in the early hours of the morning.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, explaining that the attackers first confronted a Fawcett officer who was on duty.

“Four armed men approached a Fawcett officer who was on duty and forced him to lie on the ground. They tied his hands and legs before dragging him into the building,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

He added that the second officer was captured as he attempted to alert the Fawcett Reaction Team. “The suspects tied his hands and legs and dragged him into the same room where the other Fawcett officer was being held,” he said.

The gang then forced their way into another room where three Fawcett officers were asleep, restraining them in the same manner. After overpowering all five officers, the suspects blasted open a wall-mounted safe and escaped with US$9,700.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities are appealing for information that may assist in identifying and arresting the perpetrators.
